Happy Band of Japan was my musical work between 2005 and 2012. I recorded wherever I lived, some music was recorded in a London studio flat, some in a wooden house in the woods outside Barcelona, some in Portugal, some in Brixton. I distributed it via Myspace and built up a small following, some tracks were played on BBC 6 Music, as well as other forums. In Barcelona I formed a live version and we performaned around Catalunya. I made music much like a writer writes, quietly and methodically, on my own. I always felt this tension between writing and recording, and then the social space of playing live.
