On the Sonority of Clay

On the Sonority of Clay was a residency project made at Soundfjord Gallery in London during 2013. The project resulted in a series of works exploring sonic histories via clay and ceramics. It started with my research in to the claim made by Richard Woodbridge III that sound may be accidentally recorded onto thrown pots in a manner similar to a vinyl record being etched, with the sound vibrations present in the room of the potter causing any grooving or etching tools to inscribe the sound onto the clay.
